Gasification

Many forms of biomass, such as crop residue, grasses & straws, some animal waste, etc., can be gasified. In this process, the biomaterials are quickly heated to a very high temperature, in the range of ~850-degrees C or higher. Instead of combusting, gases are flashed off and pure carbon solids remain. The gases are captured and can be used to heat buildings or water, or to generate electricity. Often it is beneficial to pelletize the biomass first and then gasify the pellets. Renaissance Engineering & Design has experience pelletizing and gasifying various biomaterials. We can assess your waste stream's potential for gasification and design a system to meet your on-farm energy needs.

See the U.S. Department of Energy's gasification description for more information.
